The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is an organ of the African Union, established in 2002 as the successor to the Organization of African Unity with the goal of strengthening cooperation between African countries.
Belarus and the countries of the African Union can significantly expand cooperation in the field of
food security, said Speaker of the House of Representatives of Belarus Igor Sergeenko at a meeting of the Pan-African Parliament.
Sergeenko expressed Belarus' interest in joint ventures with the African Union, particularly leveraging the continent's Free Trade Area to facilitate joint projects.
"Cooperation in agriculture and food security, industry, education, science and technology, and energy can be significantly expanded," the press service of the Belarusian parliament quoted Sergeenko as saying.
The Belarusian lawmaker also proposed Belarus' agricultural machinery and equipment as a cornerstone for state-level mechanization initiatives in African nations.
Belarus, he emphasized, is ready to share its expertise and technology. The country can significantly increase its student intake, contribute to the development of vocational education systems in Africa, and provide training in applied and practical skills.
This marks the first time a Belarusian House of Representatives Speaker has addressed a PAP plenary session, which comprises 275 parliamentarians representing the 55 AU member states.
