In September, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced the dissolution of the country's parliament in an address to the nation. In his speech, he stated that the opposition in the National Assembly was hindering the country's reform process. Parliamentary elections are set to take place on November 17.
Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko's convoy was attacked after an election rally in the central city of Koungheul, local media said.
The report pointed out that several people were injured in the wake of the attack, including Malick Gakou, head of the Grand Party, which supports Sonko's party, African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (PASTEF).
According to local news reports, members of PASTEF later destroyed their rivals' car, which carried a picture of the coalition candidate Takku Wallu.
