UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – In late August, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi visited a nuclear power plant in Kursk, in south-west Russia, to inspect the facility, which was in danger of being damaged during Ukraine's incursion into the region, earlier reports said.

Russia has strong evidence that Ukraine planned to attack the Kursk nuclear power plant (NPP), Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said on Friday.

"There is irrefutable evidence that Kiev was plotting to attack the NPP in Kursk, thus triggering a genuine man-made disaster and a large-scale technogenic catastrophe in Europe," Nebenzia said during an informal meeting of the UN Security Council.
