MOSCOW (Sputnik) - BRICS is an intergovernmental association created in 2006. Brazil will take on the rotating BRICS presidency on January 1, 2025.
Brazil will prioritize agriculture, technological development and financial cohesion during its BRICS chairmanship in 2025, Bruno Ferla, a representative of the chairman of the Brazilian Chapter of the BRICS Business Council, told Sputnik.
"I think that agricultural matters are really dear to Brazil and we will try to put that on the top of the list and discuss that. But also technology. And we have a very important technology industry and all the other BRICS countries, such as particularly Russia and China, also have developed a lot in terms of technology. So technology will be there as well," the official said.
Efforts to create a financial system that will facilitate cross-border payments among BRICS member states will also be high on the agenda next year, Ferla said.

"The financial system is something that we have been discussing a lot. But we need to materialize some of those steps. And so during 2025, I think that it will be the moment for us to do that," he said.

Ferla praised Russia's chairmanship of the BRICS group as "impressive." Russia assumed the rotating presidency of the bloc on January 1. It will culminate in the BRICS leaders' summit, to be held in the city of Kazan on October 22-24.
"It was very good. It was actually impressive. I think that the Russian leaders in each of the working group, they really took a lead and they tried to pace the works ... So I really congratulate the Russian team for that. Well, we hope that next year we will be able to do the same," Ferla said.
Russia's one-year presidency of BRICS was marked by the accession of new members on January 1. In addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, according to the website of the Russian 2024 BRICS Chairmanship. Saudi Arabia has not reportedly formalized its participation but has been taking part in BRICS meetings.
