The longest bridge in Africa is the 6th October Bridge in Cairo, Egypt. It spans approximately 20.5 kilometers and is primarily an elevated highway connecting the city center with the Cairo International Airport in the east.
Tanzania has finished constructing a 3.2 km bridge across Lake Victoria in the Mwanza region, which is now the longest in East Africa. Called the Magufuli Bridge in honor of the late president John Magufuli, who launched the project, the bridge connects the Misungwi and Sengerema districts and aims to improve regional connectivity, media reported.
The bridge was built by the Chinese companies China Civil Construction Group and China Railway and was fully funded by the Tanzanian government. Although the project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, having started in December 2019, it now enhances Tanzania's connections with neighboring countries such as Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda, potentially supporting trade and tourism.
