Bizerte is currently connected to most of Tunisia, including the capital, by a bridge that is closed daily to allow ships to pass.
The Tunisian government on Tuesday signed a €250 million ($271 million) contract with Chinese engineering firm Sichuan Road and Bridge Group (SRBG) to build a bridge in the Mediterranean city of Bizerte.
The project will be financed by loans from the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
