Burkina Faso's President Ibrahim Traoré has assured the nation that recent attempts to destabilize the country have only strengthened the resolve of the armed forces.
Speaking on RTB radio on Saturday, President Ibrahim Traoré addressed listeners' concerns regarding the foiled destabilization plot, which was revealed in
Burkina Faso at the end of September.
He emphasized that the plotters will be held accountable for their actions, while also expressing confidence in the unwavering commitment of the military to
defend the nation.
"As for the conspirators, we've spent two years raising awareness, talking, warning. People thought we were warning too much, but it was necessary so that the people of Burkina Faso could see for themselves how far some of their fellow Burkinabe are willing to go against their country. I won't go into details; everyone will be held responsible."
In addition, Traoré raised the possibility of extraditing his predecessor, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henry Sandaogo Damiba, who is currently in exile in neighboring Togo. The latter has been accused by the Minister of Security of involvement in recent
destabilization attempts.
With regard to the security situation in general, Ibrahim Traoré promised to "conquer the remaining 30% of the territory" by as soon as 2025.
Finally, the terrorist attack in Barsalogho at the end of August was also highlighted by the leader.
"I think I was personally targeted. Barsalogho and I have a history. In July 2022, I defied many orders to intervene so that Barsalogho wouldn't fall. I sacrificed a lot for Barsalogho. They targeted Barsalogho because it would affect me," he stated.
