Zimbabwe is facing a food crisis exacerbated by a drought, regarded as a direct result of the El Nino phenomenon, which causes abnormal warming of ocean temperatures and subsequent disruptions to global weather patterns.
Zimbabwe is committed to combating hunger amid the El Nino-induced drought through swift food distribution initiatives nationwide, President Emmerson Mnangagwa stated.
Mnangagwa underscored the pivotal role of traditional chiefs in ensuring timely food delivery, especially in rural areas. He highlighted the Zunde RaMambo/Isiphala SeNkosi program as a crucial mechanism for providing immediate relief to vulnerable households, even before government aid reaches them.
To date, each of Zimbabwe's 1,970 wards has received five metric tons of food to replenish the Zunde program's stocks.
