On September 18 and 19, the Russian capital Moscow hosted the BRICS Urban Future Forum. Subtitled "Cloud City," the event brought together more than 5,000 participants from over 30 countries, including Africans.
Riyaad Askin, CEO of the South African company Millennium Printing and IT Systems, who recently participated in a forum on the
future of BRICS cities in Moscow as part of a reverse business mission organized by the Moscow Export Center, believes that the strong existing relations between Russia and South Africa provide fertile ground for partnerships, especially in the field of artificial intelligence.
"The relationship has been strengthened already without us. So when we came here, everything just fell into place," he said in an interview with Sputnik Africa, describing his mission to identify the ideal Russian and South African companies to maximize the potential of their products and services.
The South African businessman was particularly impressed by Russia's advanced AI capabilities, highlighting his encounter with a robot serving coffee in a Moscow park.
"I was speechless," he said. "I didn't know what to say because, like I said, if we can get this time barrier sorted out... what I was really interested in is this how you guys are using AI to its full potential, which is what I want to do as well."
Askin's enthusiasm for Russian AI technology extends beyond mere admiration. He sees it as a crucial element for the advancement of his own company and the South African market. He plans to engage with key stakeholders within the South African government upon his return to explore the implementation of these solutions.
"I have to partner with Russian companies because it's really next level," Askin said.
