The IV Eurasian Women's Forum, focused on "Strengthening Trust and Global Cooperation," kicked off in St. Petersburg on September 18th. The event aims to bring together women leaders from across Eurasia to discuss crucial issues. It is also the first BRICS Women's Forum to include representatives from around the world, including Africa.
Mikateko Joyce Maluleke, Director General at Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities in South Africa, believes that some countries exploit African resources by creating conflicts. In an interview with
Sputnik Africa, she said women could address this issue by advocate for
peace and disarmament.
Responding to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova's assertion that Western countries have contributed to the emergence of terrorism in Russia and Africa for their own benefit, Mikateko Joyce Maluleke shared her thoughts in an interview with Sputnik Africa.
"In order for those countries to continue benefiting from Africa, they have to create wars, they have to create conflict, so that we're busy fighting with each other and trusting them, and selling our minerals illegally to them at next to nothing, so that we can be able to get the ammunition," Mikateko Joyce Maluleke said.
She emphasized that
women will always advocate for disarmament and peace talks, as opposed to war, because of the impact of violence on their children.
"Women would always negotiate for no ammunition because it kills their children, and women will always negotiate for peace talks rather than getting into wars," Mikateko Joyce Maluleke added.
African participants from Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and South Africa are taking part in the IV
Eurasian Women's Forum in St. Petersburg.
