The East African leader's remarks were a direct response to several Western embassies' statements urging an independent investigation into the murder of Ali Mohamed Kibao, a prominent opposition leader whose body was found in Dar es Salaam last week.
Tanzania's President
Samia Suluhu Hassan has sharply criticized several Western nations, including the US, for their comments on the country's handling of internal affairs.
"We're not here to be told how to run our country," she said, specifically addressing recent criticism regarding the government’s handling of murder and kidnapping cases, asserting that Tanzania will not tolerate interference in its domestic affairs.
President Hassan referred to recent statements by the EU diplomatic mission and several Western embassies, including the US, UK, Canadian, Norwegian, and Swiss embassies, expressing concern about violence and disappearances of political and human rights activists in Tanzania.
Without explicitly naming any embassies, Hassan countered the criticism by pointing to the US's own issues with gun violence. She emphasized that such incidents happen in every country, and Tanzania has never interfered in the internal affairs of other nations.
"We have sworn to protect the security of Tanzania and defend the constitution of Tanzania, and we will do everything possible to enhance the protection and security of Tanzania because it is our responsibility, and on this responsibility, we need no direction from anyone," she stated.
