10:15 13.09.2024 (Updated: 16:23 13.09.2024) LUGANSK (Sputnik) - During a meeting of the UN Security Council in February 2023, Roger Waters called on US President Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky to agree on a ceasefire in Ukraine. He also opposes the supply of Western weapons to Kiev.
Roger Waters, a co-founder of British rock band Pink Floyd, has told a reporter in
Lugansk that there has not been any democracy in Ukraine since the 2014 coup in Kiev.
"As we know, Ukraine is not democratic, even faintly in any way. It's unbearably corrupt. And also, Zelensky has stamped down on all opposition parties," he said in an exclusive interview to young reporter Faina Savenkova.
In the interview, which was shared with Sputnik, the 81-year-old singer shared his thoughts on what was happening in Ukraine and the role of the United States in it.
"There hasn't been any democracy since the coup, the illegal Western-inspired US-backed and paid-for Maidan coup in 2014," Waters said.
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev invited Waters to give a concert in the special military operation zone. The musician said he was ready to perform in Russia when he resumed concert activities.
"Well, I don't have a tour on the road at the moment. I was touring a show called This Is Not a Drill for two years. Sure, yeah, of course. You know, but well, there are no buts, really. Russians were inviting me to go and do gigs in St. Petersburg and Moscow," Waters said.
The musician said he would like to play in Russia and in
Ukraine. He said it would be wonderful to play in Ukraine as a celebration for the end of the conflict.
