The African Union, established in 2002 as the successor to the Organization of African Unity, comprises all 55 countries on the African continent. It serves as a continental body representing the collective interests of African nations.
On September 10, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat in Moscow. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Russia and the African Union, covering a wide range of issues.
Both sides expressed their common commitment to bolstering peace, security, and stability on the continent. They also emphasized their mutual interest in strengthening economic ties, particularly within the framework of the African Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Russia reiterated its support for "African solutions to African problems" and its readiness to collaborate with the African Union on international platforms. The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi.
