In June, the Deputy Minister of Education of Russia Denis Gribov told Russian media on the sidelines of the 2024 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that an "explosive" growth in demand for Russian language learning has been observed in African countries in recent years.
Russian is spreading across Asia and Africa as a language of science; China and India recognize the advantages of the Russian language, the deputy head of the Russian humanitarian agency, Pavel Shevtsov, said at the BRICS International Municipal Forum in Moscow.
"We're building scientific relations with Southeast Asia and Africa. Russian is now a key language in science, much like German once was. It has modern terminology that many languages lack, giving it a significant edge recognized by India and China," the deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo noted.
Shevtsov highlighted the increasing interest in Russian from Africa, Southeast Asia, and the CIS countries due to its scientific use. He stressed the importance of focusing on these regions, as many partnerships with Western countries are currently on hold.
