The establishment of a logistical support base for the Russian Navy in Sudan might be finalized soon, as current agreements are still valid, the Russian Embassy in Sudan told the Russian news outlet “Izvestia.”Additionally, the embassy pointed out that Sudan has "repeatedly denied Western rumors about its supposed intent to cancel the ongoing interstate agreement" with Russia. The agreement to create a logistical support point for the Russian Navy in Sudan was initially announced in early December 2020. This support base is intended for the repair, resupply, and crew rest of Russian ships. According to the agreement, the base will host a maximum of 300 personnel and accommodate up to four Russian ships at a time.

"The implementation of this agreement is subject to specific circumstances in both countries and could be decided at any moment," the embassy stated.
