In April, Chadian transitional President Mahamat Idriss Deby praised the results of his visit to Moscow in late January, underscoring that the talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin "were very fruitful" and "based on mutual respect."
The Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, discussed the resolution of the military-political crisis in Sudan with the Minister-Delegate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chad, Fatime Aldjine Garfa, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place on current issues affecting the African continent, with a focus on the tasks of resolving the military-political crisis in Sudan," the statement from the ministry says.
The sides discussed further strengthening partnership in the trade, economic, and investment sectors between the countries.
In early July, Bogdanov discussed the resolution of the Sudanese conflict with Sudan's Acting Foreign Minister, Hussein Awad Ali, reaffirming Moscow's commitment to an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a national dialogue, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The situation in Sudan escalated due to disagreements between the head of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the chairman of the Sovereign Council and army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The key points of contention between them involve the formation of a unified armed force and the designation of the commander-in-chief.
Long-simmering tensions between the country's military and paramilitary leaders have reportedly led to over 14,000 deaths and 33,000 injuries, creating a humanitarian crisis in the region.
