BELGRADE (Sputnik) - Since the beginning of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict in late February 2022, Moscow has never refused to negotiate a peace deal with Kiev. However, Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree in September 2022 banning all talks "with Russian President Vladimir Putin."
Most of the EU and all of NATO want Russia to be defeated regardless of the casualties; they are not interested in peace, but Russia is a nuclear power, so it is impossible to defeat it on the battlefield, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin said in an interview with Sputnik.

"I want peace, but most of the EU and all of NATO want Russia to be defeated regardless of the casualties that this will require. They are not interested in peace. But it is impossible to defeat a global nuclear power; this applies to the US, China, and Russia. Why then stir up a conflict with the largest nuclear power in the world in order to bring it to a situation where nuclear weapons are used?" Vulin said.

The Serbian official also noted that peace in Ukraine could have been achieved in the spring of 2022 at the talks in Turkey, but the West does not want it.

Serbian President Next Assassination Target After Trump, Fico, Says Deputy Prime Minister

"Peace in Ukraine could have been achieved at the talks in Istanbul, at the very beginning of the special military operation. But this did not happen, because the decision on peace in Ukraine is made by countries and politicians not from Ukraine and who want to fight Russia until the last Ukrainian," he said.

Earlier, Vulin told Sputnik that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is the next potential assassination target after the recent attempts on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and US presidential candidate Donald Trump, who both are calling for achieving peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"When the assassination attempt on Mr. Fico and then on Trump took place, I told President Vucic to prepare. Because something is happening to everyone who stands for a peaceful solution to Ukraine, someone is shooting at them," he stated during the interview.
