The founding date of the Russian Navy is considered to be October 30, 1696, when the Boyar Duma (then the supreme council under the head of state), at the proposal of Tsar Peter I, adopted a decree to build a regular fleet. In 1700, the first Russian battleship, "Goto Predestinatsia," was launched in the city of Voronezh.
The majestic Russian Navy parade took place in Saint Petersburg on Sunday.
Addressing its participants, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country will continue to enhance support for its naval forces.
"We will continue to increase the support of surface and submarine forces, naval aviation, equip ships with high-tech, next-generation systems and hypersonic missile complexes," Putin added.
The Russian leader also congratulated military personnel on Russia's Navy Day.
"Hello, comrades! I congratulate you on Navy Day," Putin addressed the servicepeople, who responded with greetings.
The president extended his greetings to the crews of the ships from China, Algeria, and India as well.
On Saturday, Putin signed a decree for the parade and fireworks display on Navy Day in the northern capital of Russia.
This time, the celebration traditionally began with the lighting of torches on the Rostral Columns in St. Petersburg. This was followed by a parade of military ships on the Neva River, with about 20 ships participating. Additionally, there was a march of sailors followed by a concert. The festivities will conclude with a fireworks display over the Peter and Paul Fortress in the evening.
