ACCRA (Sputnik) - In last week's interview, Ghanaian ex-president John Dramani Mahama told Sputnik that neocolonialism is a reality in today's Africa, adding that the continent needs to be restructured to start exporting products to other countries and stop "begging for handouts."
Neocolonialism remains to be a problem for Africa, Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey told Sputnik.
"Neocolonialism remains to be a problem for Africa, and it manifests itself in various forms such as economic dependence, cultural imperialism and political interference," Dussey said.
The fight against neocolonialism requires a multidimensional and long-term approach, the minister said.

"This implies not only changes in public policy, but also a transformation of thinking. Education and awareness play a crucial role in this process, contributing to the revival of pride in our African heritage and encouraging critical thinking about our international relations," the minister said.

In late June, the Third Ordinary Session of the Sixth Pan-African Parliament called for the "decolonization" of education in African countries, urging the continent to abandon colonial education systems in favor of curricula that promote economic growth.
