Tanzania has made a significant advancement in its railway modernization by acquiring two new electric multiple-unit (EMU) trains from South Korea. Each train comprises eight carriages and will operate on the new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route between Dar es Salaam and Dodoma since the end of July.With the latest acquisition, Tanzania now has three EMUs, each capable of carrying 589 passengers at a speed of 160 km/h, continuing the country's ambition for improved and rapid rail services.Furthermore, an express train service between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro will launch on Friday, reducing travel time from four hours by bus to just one hour and forty minutes.TRC emphasized the need to book tickets in advance to avoid congestion and mentioned that additional trains would be added based on passenger demand.

In total, the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) has purchased 10 sets of locomotives and coaches from the Hyundai Rotem Company of South Korea.
Tanzania has made a significant advancement in its
railway modernization by acquiring two new electric multiple-unit (EMU) trains from South Korea.
Each train comprises eight carriages and will operate on the new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route between Dar es Salaam and Dodoma since the end of July.
“TRC has received a total of 65 passenger wagons, 17 electric locomotives, and three sets of EMU trains; the receipt of the equipment for the SGR operations is ongoing in different phases,” local media quoted TRC's statement as saying.
