Protests against the new tax implementation began on June 18 and have now spread across Kenya. Demonstrators claim that the new policy will harm the economy and increase the cost of living for Kenyans, many of whom are already struggling financially.
At least 11 people were injured in the western Kenyan town of Homa Bay during anti-government demonstrations, the Nation newspaper reported on Thursday. Some of them reportedly received gunshot wounds.
Earlier, local news portal Citizen Digital reported that seven people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds during anti-government demonstrations in Homa Bay.
As local media reported, police began firing tear gas and using rubber bullets to disperse demonstrators in Nairobi. Reports indicated that at least 22 people have been killed and dozens injured, while President William Ruto announced the deaths of six young men.

President of Kenya Says Will Not Sign Budget Bill Amid Nationwide Protests
At the same time, on Wednesday, Ruto announced the withdrawal of the controversial bill and its subsequent revision. He also promised to engage in dialogue with the leaders of the demonstrators.
The Citizen Digital previously noted that elite police units have blocked all roads leading to the president's residence, and all cars are being redirected to alternative routes. Military equipment was deployed near the presidential residence to barricade the roads.
The situation in Nairobi escalated on Tuesday. From the very morning on, people began arriving in the business center of the capital, chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the president. This area of the city is home to administrative offices, including parliament, whose building was broken into by protesters.
