MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In January, the office of the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) stated that Pyongyang considers Vladimir Putin the closest friend of the Korean people and is ready to warmly receive him if he visits the country.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to pay an official visit to North Korea, such a visit is being prepared, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sputnik.
"Indeed, president Putin has a valid invitation to pay an official visit to North Korea. The visit is being prepared. We will announce the dates of the trip in due time," Peskov said.
From September 12 to 17, 2023, the head of the DPRK Kim Jong Un traveled to Russia on an official visit. He met with Putin at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The leaders discussed the development of bilateral relations. The president of Russia noted that the meeting was very productive, there was a frank exchange of views on the situation in the region.
In January of this year, important negotiations also took place between the foreign ministries of the two countries, during which special emphasis was placed on discussing the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
