Nigerian Afrobeat superstars
Davido and Wizkid have engaged in a verbal duel on the social networking site X, setting trends in the West African country.
The spat between the singers started on Monday night after fans begged Wizkid to release a new song. Responding to one of the users, Balogun attached a video of Davido on his knees, tearfully begging for something from the person behind the scenes. Wizkid described the video as "Beg me like this. Send video."
In response, Davido took a shot at Wizkid calling him a "sick" man and saying that his career is dead.
"That’s what I thought. Nothing to say! Exactly why I stopped wasting my clout and jeopardizing my millions of USD of endorsements on someone whose career was resurrected a few years ago just to die again. NEXT!!," Davido wrote.
Wizkid responded, tweeting [sic], "U and all ur crew plus ur pant washer songwriter go to sleep at night thinking you got anything on me in music [...] wish u all well."
Davido continued to express his anger
on social media, blasting Wizkid over his short height, claiming that his stature can make one giggle.
" [...] so funny how the whole industry scared of a 4ft nigga me I short too 00 but if u see am in person u go just giggle," he concluded.
The discussion between the Afrobeat stars swirled around the Nigerian X segment, and Wizkid's name remained at the top of online searches on Tuesday.
Before that, the relationship between the big stars seemed friendly: in December 2023, Davido announced a new Wizkid album on his X account, and Wizkid had announced plans for a joint tour with his rival in 2023.
Wizkid made headlines in 2021 when he won
a Grammy Award for his collaboration on Beyonce's 2019 hit record, "Brown Skin Girl." He then won in the Best Music Video category.
Davido has been nominated for a Grammy three times, but unsuccessfully, with his most recent nomination coming in 2024, which he lost to South African singer Tyla.
