Davido, or, David Adedeji Adeleke, is a popular Nigerian-American singer who was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for his song "Unavailable," which earned the musician the title of Best Male Artist at the Trace Awards, that recognize African and African-influenced musicians from across the continent and its diaspora.
Famous Nigerian singer and Afrobeats star Davido announced on Tuesday his commitment to donate 300 million naira (more than $188,000) annually to support orphanages in his country.
"I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation," his post on X read.
He added that all the details of the donation will be announced on Wednesday.
Davido founded his charity organization, the Adeleke Foundation, in 2022. But even before that, in 2021, he donated 250 million naira (around $157,000) to orphanages nationwide.
However, the recent Grammy nominee is not only known for his good deeds in the form of donations, but also for scandals. A month ago, his ex-girlfriend, singer Savage, filed a formal complaint with the police in which she said that the singer threatened her after she posted a photo with the mother of one of Davido's children on a social network.
