On Saturday night, Iran launched dozens of drones and missiles toward Israel after threatening to retaliate for a deadly airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria last week that killed seven members of the elite Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran was forced to exercise its inherent right to self-defense in retaliation for the Jewish state's aggression, Iranian expert on international affairs Somayeh Mandegar told Sputnik, commenting on Iran's overnight operation against Israel.
She noted that immediately after the Israeli missile attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the Iranian authorities demanded condemnation of this illegal action, but this did not happen.

"It is important to note here that if the US, UK, France and the UN really wanted security and stability in the Middle East, they would have condemned the attack on the Iranian consulate. But instead, they suggested that Iran should not respond to Israel's actions," the expert said.

Mandegar added that the overnight attack showed that "Iran's patience has run out."
"This operation put an end to the proxy war between Iran and Israel, and now we will be able to observe the formation of a new order in the Middle East," the expert concluded.

Iran's Actions Are in Line With International Norms: Lawmaker Speaks on Tehran's Attack on Israel
On Saturday night, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel in its first ever direct attack on Israeli territory.
The Iranian attack was in response to an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1. The Israel Defense Forces said Israel intercepted 99 percent of the aerial targets fired at by Iran, including all of the attack drones.
Israel will respond to Iran’s attack, but the scale of its response is not yet determined, the US media reported on Sunday, citing an unnamed Israeli official.
