World May Face New Acute Crisis in Middle East, Russian Envoy to UN Says
09:05 14.04.2024 (Updated: 09:36 14.04.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Tensions in the Middle East escalated last week after Israel struck the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, destroying the diplomatic building and killing seven members of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.
The world is potentially facing a new
acute crisis in the Middle East, the fate of which depends on the next steps of the parties involved, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said.
"Now we potentially have a new acute crisis in the Middle East. Everything depends on the next steps of the parties involved, or their absence," Polyansky said on Telegram.

On Saturday night, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) press office reported that Iran had launched drones from its territory toward the Jewish state, and that the IDF was on high alert and tracking all targets. The Israeli army later said it had also detected a rocket launch from Iran.
