BERLIN (Sputnik) - Germany rejects Nicaragua's accusations of violating international law and facilitating genocide in the Gaza Strip in connection with its weapons supplies to Israel, German Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer said on Friday.
In early March, Nicaragua filed a lawsuit against Germany with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its alleged violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by providing financial, political and military assistance to Israel. The lawsuit will be considered by the ICJ next week.

"Let me tell you right now that we reject Nicaragua's accusations. Germany has not violated either the convention on genocide or international humanitarian law, and we will explain this in detail at the International Court of Justice," Fischer said.

The German Foreign Ministry's spokesman also called it an insinuation that the weapons supplied by Germany are used by Israel in violation of international law and human rights as per the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution.
Earlier in the day, the UNHRC adopted a resolution "to cease the sale, transfer and diversion of arms, munitions and other military equipment to Israel" to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza.
