MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that NATO's attempts to expand its influence are unlikely to contribute to stability in the Caucasus.
Armenia is cooperating with NATO in various fields, including peacekeeping missions, however, it does not intend to enter the alliance, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.
"We already have cooperation with NATO, we are participating in peacekeeping operations, we have been in Afghanistan, we increased the number of peacekeepers in Kosovo recently … If you mean the application or aspiration to become a member in NATO - no, there is no such point in our agenda now" Mirzoyan told Argentine broadcaster TN on Sunday when asked whether Armenia had plans to become closer with NATO.
The Armenian minister added that Yerevan considers the United States and Europe its main partners.
"And now we are deepening our economical relations, political dialogue with the European Union, with the United States. I would not name this [process a] switch [in political course] … we are trying to ensure our security, but also we are trying to develop democratic path … we see that we have several other partners in the West," Mirzoyan said.
