Interference of Western countries in the South Caucasus will only complicate the situation in the region rather than help to improve it, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said. Tehran believes that the South Caucasus nations are capable of solving their problems independently, the ambassador said. He added that Iran maintained bilateral and multilateral contacts in this direction. The South Caucasus is considered one of the most conflict-ridden regions of the globe, primarily due to the long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region. In September 2023, Azerbaijan took control over the region, populated mainly by ethnic Armenians, prompting almost all local residents to flee to Armenia.

Western Interference to Complicate Situation in South Caucasus, Iranian Ambassador Says
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In early October, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in a telephone conversation with EU Council President Charles Michel that if new conflicts broke out in the South Caucasus, France would be the culprit.
Interference of Western countries in the South Caucasus will only complicate the situation in the region rather than help to improve it, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said.
"The intervention of Western countries in the region cannot be considered a successful experience, and this approach will not help solve the problems in the region; on the contrary, it will complicate the situation," he said in an interview with Azerbaijani news agency Trend out Saturday.
Tehran believes that
the South Caucasus nations are capable of solving their problems independently, the ambassador said. He added that Iran maintained bilateral and multilateral contacts in this direction.
The South Caucasus is considered one of the most conflict-ridden regions of the globe, primarily due to the long-standing conflict between
Armenia and Azerbaijan over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region. In September 2023, Azerbaijan took control over the region, populated mainly by ethnic Armenians, prompting almost all local residents to flee to Armenia.
