17:43 05.03.2024 (Updated: 18:29 05.03.2024) Photos of the crash site released by Kenyan media show the small crashed plane lying in the tall grass of Nairobi National Park, a large wildlife sanctuary near Wilson Airport.
At least two people were killed when a training and passenger plane collided over a national park in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, the Kenyan police said.
The collision caused the smaller plane Cessna
to crash, killing a student pilot and the instructor, law enforcement officials added.
The larger Dash 8, operated by Safarilink Aviation, was carried 44 people, including five crew members, all of whom escaped injury, the airline said.
It was en route to the coastal resort of Diani when the crew reported a loud bang shortly after takeoff from Wilson Airport and decided to turn back, the airline said.
The statement added that the relevant authorities have been notified and are
investigating the incident along with Safarilink Aviation.
The company later revealed that the tail of the plane was damaged in the collision and the passengers were transferred to another Safarilink plane which successfully landed the tourists in the resort town.
Safarilink also extended its condolences to the crew and family of the Cessna aircraft.
