Sudan Ready for Indirect Talks With RSF Via Libya, Turkey Mediation, Foreign Minister Says
ANTALYA, Turkey (Sputnik) - Last month, the head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, proposed a ceasefire initiative for Sudan, as part of which he planned to invite both warring sides to Tripoli.
The Sudanese authorities agree to hold indirect talks with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group through the mediation of Libya and Turkey, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq Ali told Sputnik.
"We still maintain the need to find a peaceful solution through negotiations, but at the same time, we emphasize that any solution must be based on the Jeddah [negotiation] platform, we will implement it and then we can move on. We, based on the conviction of the need for negotiations, immediately agreed [to the Libyan initiative] ... indirect negotiations are expected through the mediation of Libya and Turkey," the minister said on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
The top diplomat added that a military operation to liberate the Sudanese capital of Khartoum from the RSF will begin in the near future.
"We hope for good news, liberation is already close. The satellite city of Omdurman is almost free from the rebels. We hope that we will be able to liberate the remaining parts of the city from them; now they control several blocks. The military will deal with them in these blocks in the near future," Ali said.
