CAIRO (Sputnik) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Sudanese sovereignty council head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan discussed efforts to settle the Sudanese crisis and restore stability in the country during their meeting in Cairo on Thursday, the Egyptian presidency said.
Earlier in the day, al-Burhan, who is also the commander of the Sudanese regular armed forces, arrived in the Egyptian capital on an official visit. This is his second trip to Egypt since the outbreak of hostilities in Sudan in April 2023. The first visit took place in August 2023.
"During the meeting, the parties discussed, in particular, the situation in Sudan and efforts aimed at solving the current crisis in order to restore stability and preserve the sovereignty, unity and cohesion of the Sudanese state and its institutions," the presidency said in a statement.
Egypt will keep supporting Sudan in its struggle for stability in politics, security and economy, and will further contribute to settling the Sudanese conflict, El-Sisi was cited as saying by his office.
Al-Burhan, for his part, expressed gratitude to Cairo for its support, the statement read.

Earlier in the week, the Sudanese sovereignty council chief also visited Tripoli to discuss Libya's ceasefire initiative in Sudan.
In April 2023, violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group. The parties to the conflict have since introduced a number of temporary nationwide ceasefires, but none has helped settle the conflict. In late October, the parties resumed negotiations, mediated by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, but hostilities in the country continue.
