CAIRO (Sputnik) - In August 2023, Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities confirmed the possibility of exporting Russian wheat from Egypt to neighboring countries, if Moscow establishes a global logistics distribution center in the economic zone of the Suez Canal.
Cairo and Moscow have held several meetings to discuss the possibility of establishing Russia's logistics distribution center for wheat in the economic zone of the Suez Canal, the Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade told Sputnik.
"The ministry of supply, represented by the Egyptian holding company for silos and storage, has held a number of meetings with the Russian side on the matter," the ministry said, adding that the parties had reached an agreement that Moscow would consider the project.

Moscow has always played and keeps playing a major role in ensuring Egypt's food security, Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgiy Borisenko told Sputnik earlier in February. In the 2022-2023 agricultural year, which ended on June 30, 2023, Moscow supplied over 8 million tonnes of Russian wheat to Egypt, thus covering more than 80% of the latter's grain import needs, the Russian diplomat added.
