Russia Fulfilled Its Obligations on Grain Supplies to Africa 'In Shortest Possible Time'
At the 2023 Russia-Africa Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to supply Russian grain free of charge to African countries most in need.
Russia promptly fulfilled its obligations to supply grain free of charge to the most needy countries in Africa, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria
Zakharova said at a briefing.
"Russia fulfilled its obligations [on the humanitarian supplies] in the shortest possible time, once again making a significant contribution to ensuring food security of the African continent. But not a single Western mainstream media, which has been talking about this for a whole year, will proactively talk about this," the diplomat said.
In line with the decision voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 2023 Russia-Africa Summit, as Zakharova noted, 200 thousand tonnes of grain were sent by ships to Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Eritrea.
"The first batch was transferred to Somalia in November last year," said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry. "In January of this year, humanitarian cargo was delivered to Burkina Faso, Mali, Somalia, as well as Cameroon, where the wheat will be processed into flour and sent to the Central African Republic. Grain is currently being transported to Zimbabwe."
In July 2023, Russia's "Northern capital," St. Petersburg, hosted the second Russia-Africa Summit with delegations from 45 African countries present.
