Four police officers found themselves on the wrong side of the law after being apprehended while enjoying a few drinks at a local pub in the central Kenyan county of Kirinyaga, despite strict orders from the governor to shut down all drinking establishments in the area, local media reported. The incident unfolded after a vigilant person reported the officers' "brew-tal" activities to the authorities. Acting on the tip-off, law enforcement officers swooped in on the unsuspecting officers and their watering hole, promptly detaining them for their flouting of the closure directive. The pub landlord found himself "barred" alongside the officers, although a few customers managed to slip away, the media added. The detainees reportedly cooperated with the authorities and were taken to the police station for further proceedings. The decree prohibiting all bars was signed by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Saturday, following recent incidents in which several people died after consuming alcohol laced with ethanol.According to Waiguru, only bars vetted by the government will be eligible for licenses to operate in Kirinyaga County.Last December, Kenyan Senator Samson Cherargei told Sputnik Africa that illegal brewing is one of Kenya's most dangerous problems, affecting youth, families, and possibly the country's entire society.

UNO Reverse Card: Kenyan Policemen Arrested for Drinking Despite Ban
15:00 19.02.2024 (Updated: 15:20 19.02.2024) Some people can afford to relax after work with a bottle of beer or a glass of whiskey in the company of friends or colleagues. Sometimes, such relaxation has consequences, such as hangovers, but for Kenyan police officers, it has brought more serious problems — with the law they are supposed to enforce.
Four police officers found themselves on the wrong side of the law after being apprehended while enjoying a few drinks at a local pub in the central Kenyan county of Kirinyaga, despite strict orders from the governor to shut down all drinking establishments in the area, local media reported.
The incident unfolded after a vigilant person reported the officers'
"brew-tal" activities to the authorities.
The decree prohibiting all bars was signed by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Saturday, following recent incidents in which several people died after consuming alcohol laced with ethanol.
According to Waiguru, only bars vetted by the government will be eligible for licenses to operate in Kirinyaga County.
Last December, Kenyan Senator Samson Cherargei
told Sputnik Africa that illegal brewing is one of Kenya's most dangerous problems, affecting youth, families, and possibly the country's entire society.
