MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Planes of North Korea's state-owned flag carrier Air Koryo fly from Vladivostok to Pyongyang twice a week, but there is currently no passenger rail or passenger sea traffic between North Korea and Russia's Primorsky Territory.
Moscow and Pyongyang will soon sign an agreement on the construction of a highway bridge between the two nations, Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora told Sputnik, adding that Pyongyang was interested in the development of bilateral transportation infrastructure.
"The need for such a transport artery is long overdue. I expect an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a road bridge to be signed in the near future," Matsegora said.
Moreover, ferry service between the North Korean city of Rason and the Russian city of Vladivostok, which had been "in high demand," could also be restored soon, the ambassador added.

Passenger train traffic and regular flights between the two countries are also expected to resume after the COVID-19 pandemic, Matsegora said, adding that it would be easier for Russians to travel to North Korea, especially given the fact that the North Korean authorities were planning to develop tourism programs.

"There are a lot of amazingly beautiful places in North Korea that will surely attract the attention of Russian tourists," Matsegora added.

Rail freight traffic between the two countries resumed in November 2022 on a regular basis through the only border railway crossing, Khasan-Tumangang.
