Niger's Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine traveled to Iran, following his visits to Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
Iran expressed its readiness to assist Niger in overcoming sanctions, Iran's first Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber said during a meeting with Niger's Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.
"We will definitely share the experiences we have in this field with our brothers [from Niger]," Mokhber said, adding that his nation denounces "the cruel sanctions which are imposed [on the West African country] by the domination system."
After the July 2023 military coup in Niger, the Economic Community of West African States imposed sanctions on the country, which Zeine called "inhuman."

"Niger intends to breathe new life into cooperation, which was dormant, with the Islamic republic," Zeine said at the meeting.

Mokhber commended "the success" of the former French colony in "having established an independent government" following the coup.

In addition, Niger and Iran signed a number of documents on cooperation in trade, economic, banking, cultural, educational, healthcare and construction sectors, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.
On this occasion, Mohber, during a press conference with Zeine, noted that "at the moment, two meetings of the joint cooperation commission have been formed and held between the two countries, it has been decided that the next meeting will be held in the near future."
The vice-president added that the parties have drawn up documents on cooperation in the provision of technical and engineering services, housing construction, thermal power plants operation, car exports, healthcare, higher education, banking and finance, in particular, the creation of a clearing mechanism. He stressed that it was decided to launch the activities of Iranian high-tech companies in Niger.
Nigerien military authorities are seeking to diversify the country's partnerships while moving away from its historic ties with its former colonizer France. The West African nation ended military cooperation with France, won the withdrawal of French troops from its soil and the expulsion of the French ambassador to Niger.
