Burkinabe Forces Dismantle Network Seeking to Destabilize Burkina Faso, Gov't Spokesman Says
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Last September, Burkinabe military authorities, who came to power in the country in the 2022 coup, said they had prevented a coup attempt. The authorities then said that four officers had been detained for their involvement in the coup attempt, while two others had fled.
Security forces of Burkina Faso have dismantled a network of serving and discharged
military personnel, civilians and activists seeking to
destabilize the country, Burkinabe government spokesperson Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo said Thursday.
"The government informs the people of Burkina Faso that security forces have been actively working to dismantle a network seeking to destabilize Burkina Faso since January 13," the spokesperson said in a statement on X.
The statement said that the network included serving and discharged military personnel, civilians and activists who planned to destabilize
Burkina Faso's institutions and stop the restoration of the country's "dignity, integrity, freedom and sovereignty."
The spokesperson also said the network was funded from abroad.
"Those behind this project planned January 14 as a springboard for action to carry out their diabolical plan... Ultimately, the goal was to create unrest conducive to military intervention from outside the country," the statement read.
