Israel-Palestine Escalation
Israel was hit by an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on October 7, with Hamas movement's troops infiltrating border areas. On October 8, the Israeli government announced that it had invoked Article 40 of the Basic Law, which means the country was officially in a state of war.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) - The Israeli government has repeatedly said that the conflict in the Gaza Strip will not be over until all Hamas' political and military infrastructure in the enclave is completely destroyed.
Qatar has drafted a new proposal for a potential deal between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas under which Israeli troops would withdraw from the enclave and the Hamas leaders would be given the opportunity to evacuate, Israel's Channel 13 reported on Wednesday, citing people in the know.
Qatar's proposal ultimately seeks a phased release of all Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip, the report read.
Israel's War Cabinet is expected to discuss Doha's proposal during an evening session in Tel Aviv later on Wednesday, the broadcaster said.
The Israeli authorities only ever expressed their willingness to agree to a short humanitarian pause.
Negotiations to secure the release of hostages from Gaza resumed earlier this week. The talks had been halted by Hamas over the killing of its official Saleh al-Arouri in a suspected Israeli strike in Lebanon on January 2, the Axios news website reported.

Blinken Says US Working With Israel, Other States to Resolve Gaza Hostages Issue
The United States is working with Israel and other countries in the Middle East to resolve the issue of hostages in the Gaza Strip, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.
"We’re doing everything we possibly can, working of course with the Israelis, working with Qatar, working with Egypt, countries that have relationships of one kind or another with Hamas, to put this back on track to continue getting hostages home," Blinken told the US media in an interview.
He expressed optimism that the Palestinian movement Hamas will negotiate the release of hostages it holds.
"We succeeded before in the midst of this conflict in getting more than a hundred hostages out, and it’s my belief that they can and will engage on this, and that’s something we’re intensely focused on with Qatar and with Egypt," Blinken said.

Blinken Says US Sees Phase-Down Of Operations in Parts of Gaza
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the US sees a phase-down of military activities in some parts of Gaza.
"We’ve seen now a phase-down of the operations in the north. That’s important," Blinken told the US media in an interview recorded during his trip to Israel earlier this week.
He stressed that Israel withdrew a “significant number” of its forces from those regions in Gaza where they have achieved their goals.
Blinken also confirmed Washington’s commitment to resolving the conflict as quickly as possible. He pointed out it is important to prevent attacks against Israel in the future.
