Qatar has drafted a new proposal for a potential deal between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas under which Israeli troops would withdraw from the enclave and the Hamas leaders would be given the opportunity to evacuate, Israel's Channel 13 reported on Wednesday, citing people in the know.
Qatar's proposal ultimately seeks a phased release of all Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip, the report read.
Israel's War Cabinet is expected to discuss Doha's proposal during an evening session in Tel Aviv later on Wednesday, the broadcaster said.
The Israeli authorities only ever expressed their willingness to agree to a short humanitarian pause.
Negotiations to secure the release of hostages from Gaza resumed earlier this week. The talks had been halted by Hamas over the killing of its official Saleh al-Arouri in a suspected Israeli strike in Lebanon on January 2, the Axios news website reported.
