The United Nations will be watching the decision of the International Court of Justice with regards to South Africa’s case against Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Wednesday. We have no comment on the proceedings, he added. In December 2023, South Africa filed a case at the ICJ, urging provisional measures against the Israeli authorities. South Africa claimed that Israel's actions against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip were a violation of the Genocide Convention, to which Israel replied that Pretoria's claims had no factual basis and was an "exploitation" of the court, adding that the country was allegedly collaborating with "terrorists."

UN to Watch ICJ Decision on South Africa's Case Against Israel Action in Gaza, Spokesperson Says
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - On January 11 and 12, at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will hold the first public hearing in the case of South Africa's request for provisional measures under the Genocide Convention against Israel for its actions in Gaza.
The United Nations will be watching the decision of the International Court of Justice with regards to
South Africa’s case against Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Wednesday.
"We're of course aware of the case and we'll be watching what happens in the court. But ... the International Court of Justice is independent of the Secretary General; he has no impact ... over them so they are independent," Dujarric told a briefing.
We have no comment on the proceedings, he added.
In December 2023, South Africa filed a case at the ICJ, urging provisional measures against the Israeli authorities. South Africa
claimed that Israel's actions against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip were a violation of the Genocide Convention, to which Israel replied that Pretoria's claims had no factual basis and was an "exploitation" of the court, adding that the country was allegedly collaborating with "terrorists."
