Crimea Authorities Express Readiness to Receive Leaders of BRICS Countries

On March 16, 2014, a Crimean-wide referendum was held, the majority of residents of the peninsula voted in favor of joining Russia. In accordance with the referendum results, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Crimean authorities signed an agreement on March 18 on the accession of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to Russia.
The Republic of Crimea would be glad to receive leaders of the BRICS member states, including as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, told Sputnik.
"I would very much like to see [Belarus President] Alexander Lukashenko in Crimea. If we talk about other modern political leaders, I would be glad to welcome [Chinese leader] Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Modi, South African President Ramaphosa on the Crimean land... In short, a "BRICS summit" is gathering," he said.

According to him, Crimeans would be happy to see the leaders of the states that recognize the Russian status of the peninsula.
"Let me remind you that these are Venezuela, Nicaragua, Syria, North Korea, Cuba. And in principle, we are ready to accept and consider any application from anyone. Except for the enemies, of course. But they will not ask," the head of the parliament stressed.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Crimea's reunification with Russia after 23 years of the peninsula being part of Ukraine. Earlier, it was reported that the anniversary will be held under the motto "Crimean Spring – it all started with us."
