MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The incumbent president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi, was reelected for a second term on Sunday, the Actualite news outlet reported, citing data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
The DRC held presidential, legislative and local elections on December 20 and 21.
According to the CENI, more than 13 million voters (73%) cast their ballots for Tshisekedi. His main rival, Moise Katumbi, one of the richest men in the DRC, was far behind with only 18% of the vote.
Eighteen million voters cast their ballots, representing a 43% turnout.

Which African Nations Elected Their Presidents in 2023?
The previous presidential election, which was supposed to take place in 2016, was repeatedly pushed back until December 2018. The UN said that Tshisekedi's win in the 2018 elections was the "first peaceful transfer of power" in the DRC since independence.
The DRC elects its president by simple majority vote. The president of the country is only allowed to serve two consecutive five-year terms under the constitution.
