The development comes nearly a week after Chad's Supreme Court endorsed the results of a referendum organized by the ruling military government in which an overwhelming number of Chadians voted in favor of a new constitution.
Succes Masra, the leader of the opposition Transformers Party, was named prime minister of Chad's transitional government on Monday by the country's interim president, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, the presidency said.
The appointment of Succes Masra, the leader of the opposition Transformers Party, came two days after the Central African country's transitional prime minister, Saleh Kebzabo, resigned as part of the country's standard procedure following the adoption of a new constitution.
Days before last month's referendum on a new constitution, in which 85% of participants voted "yes," Masra publicly urged supporters to vote in favor.

Chad's citizens voted on a new constitution on December 17, a major milestone on the road to elections promised by Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, who took power after the death of his father, former President Idriss Deby Itno, in April 2021.
Later in October 2022, the central African country was rocked by unrest after Mahamat Idriss Deby postponed elections for another two years and unveiled a new transitional government.
