Chad's Prime Minister Resigns in Compliance With Newly Adopted Constitution

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Thursday, Chad's supreme court had approved the results of a referendum, organized by the ruling military junta, with 85% of Chadians voting in favor of the new constitution.
Chadian Prime Minister Saleh Kebzabo said on Friday that he had submitted his resignation as part of the country's standard procedure following the adoption of a new constitution.

"In accordance with republican practice and custom, following the adoption of the constitution today, I submitted to the transitional president my resignation and that of my government," Kebzabo said on X.

A referendum in which 85% of Chadians voted in favor of the new constitution was approved by the country's Supreme Court on Thursday.

They Said 'Yes': 86% of Voters Support Chad's New Constitution
According to Chadian news portal Alwihda Info, the Chadian opposition had demanded in a letter to the supreme court for the results of the referendum to be annulled as they believed the voting process had irregularities.
In April 2021, Idriss Deby Itno, who had been Chad's president for decades, died after being critically wounded in counter-insurgency actions in the north of the country. After that, the army in Chad dissolved the parliament and the government and established a transitional military council to rule the country.
Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, the 37-year-old son of the deceased president, headed the council. On October 8, 2022, the transitional council was dissolved and Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno was declared the interim president.
