MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Saturday, at least 9 adults and one child were killed, 45 people were injured as a result of Ukraine's shelling of the Russian Belgorod city, the country's Ministry of Emergencies said. Around 40 civilian sites were damaged during the shelling, with no military sites affected, the emergency services added.
The terrorist attack on the Russian city of Belgorod will be the subject of proceedings in the UN Security Council and Russia has requested a meeting, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik on Saturday.
"The terrorist attack in Belgorod will be the subject of proceedings in the UN Security Council. Russia requested a meeting of the Security Council," Zakharova said.
The United Kingdom is behind the attack on Belgorod, which in coordination with the United States incites Kiev to terrorist actions, Zakharova added.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on Saturday, Russian air defense systems intercepted two "Alder" ("Olkha") rockets with banned cluster munitions and most of the Czech-made Vampire rockets, launched by Ukraine. However, several rockets and cluster parts from downed Alder missiles hit Belgorod.
The shelling led to deaths of 9 adults and one child, 45 people were injured, Russia's Ministry of Emergencies reported.
In case of a direct hit by Alder rockets with cluster munitions on the city, the consequences would be immeasurably more severe, the ministry noted.
The Kiev regime, which committed this crime, is trying to distract attention from defeats at the front, as well as provoke Russia to such actions, the body underlined, adding that the Russian armed forces target only military facilities and directly related infrastructure and will continue to act this way.
