MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Monday, the US Army initiated strikes on three facilities after US troops at the Erbil Air Base in northern Iraq were attacked by a drone, leaving three US soldiers wounded, with one in critical condition. The US Defense Department added that three targets of the Kataib Hezbollah militia and associated groups in Iraq were hit.
Hisham al-Rikabi, the media adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, said Thursday that the strikes of the United States forces against facilities in the Iraqi territory are a violation of international law and called the US military measures a "dangerous escalation."
"Arguments and explanations of the Americans are unjustified and unacceptable because what they are doing is a clear encroachment on the Iraqi sovereignty and a violation and retaliation beyond international law, even at the level of understanding and relations between sovereign countries," al-Rikabi said in an interview with the Arab World Press news agency.
He added that any military actions of the US are a "serious escalation" and damage the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
