In July, during the second Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia's Synergy University and officials from Burkina Faso began consultations on prospects for cooperation between Russia's largest private educational institution and the West African nation.
A branch of Russia's
Synergy University will be opened in Burkina Faso, Vadim Lobov, president of the Synergy Educational Corporation, which owns the university, announced after a meeting with Burkinabe Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela.
According to Lobov, a delegation from the university met this week with several senior Burkinabe officials, including the head of the presidential administration and the ministers of national education and higher education.
"Synergy University will not only open its branch in Ouagadougou, the country's capital, but will also participate in the project to create the Virtual University of Burkina Faso, which will specialize in online education," the university said in a statement obtained by Sputnik Africa. "We will provide our digital platforms for this purpose. We will also train teachers to work in the digital education environment."
For his part, the Minister of National Education, Literacy and Local Language Development, Joseph Andre Ouedraogo, supported this initiative.
"We accept the proposal of Synergy Corporation. The development of digital technologies in the national education system will be the beginning of cooperation and will strengthen relations between our countries," the African minister said.
The private Synergy University was founded in Moscow in 1995 and has received awards from the Russian government for its educational and teaching aids in the field of business competition and entrepreneurship. As of 2023, Synergy is the largest private university in Russia.
