In late November, following a military coup in Niger in late July, the country's new authorities announced the expulsion of the French Ambassador to Niger Sylvain Itte amid anti-French demonstrations.
France announced the closure of its embassy in Niger for an indefinite period, French Ambassador to Niger, Sylvain Itte, stated in a letter to the embassy staff.
According to the letter, France also terminated employment contracts with the personnel of the diplomatic mission.

Itte wrote that, following the July coup in the country, the French diplomatic mission "cannot perform the full range of its functions" due to "restrictions" imposed on the embassy by the new Nigerien authorities.
The decision was made a few hours before the departure of the last French troops, previously stationed in Niger and withdrawn from its soil at the request of the new Nigerien leadership.
Earlier, against the backdrop of the anti-French demonstrations in Niger, the French ambassador was forced to leave the country. The Nigerien new authorities also announced the denunciation of agreements with France in the military field.
