Africa Sees Consumer Confidence Grow Month-on-Month in December

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The consumer confidence is used to measure the level of the consumers' optimism regarding their financial situation and the state of economy in general.
Africa sees consumer confidence grow month-on-month in December, a poll, conducted by the international research group Ipsos, showed.
In particular, South Africa rebounded from last month's decline with a 2.7 point increase in the indicator, according to Ipsos. Many countries in Europe and the Middle East also witnessed the growth of the consumer confidence.
"Sentiment is up significantly in many European countries. Great Britain (+2.9 points), Poland (+2.5 points), and Belgium (+2.3 points) all show increases in their National Index. Of note, Poland is up a staggering 15 points since the start of 2023. Consumer confidence is also up significantly in the Middle East and Africa, as both Israel (+3.2 points) [...]," the pollster said.

However, some countries posted a decline in consumer confidence this month, including Chile (-3.1 points), Australia (-2.8 points), France (-2.2 points) and Sweden (-1.7 points). The global consumer confidence, the average of each of the 29 surveyed countries' indices, has risen by 0.5 points since November to 47.7, marking the first significant monthly change since May, Ipsos said.
India holds the highest national index score this month at 64.3, followed by Indonesia and Mexico with 63.9 points and 60 points, respectively, the pollster said. The findings are based on data from a monthly survey conducted by Ipsos among over 21,200 people from 29 countries. This survey was fielded from November 24 to December 8.
