The armed clashes between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and a paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), entered the ninth month. On December 15, the clashes reportedly intensified in the country's northern area of Wad Madani, central city of Sudan's Al-Jazira state, leading to declaration of a state of emergency.
A state of emergency was declared in the Sudanese governorate of Al-Qadarif amid the conflict between the country's armed forces (SAF) and a paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces (RSF), media reported.
The governorate's authorities noted that the declaration of the state of emergency was under the law on emergency and public safety, the media said. A curfew was reportedly imposed from 6pm to 6am local time until further notice.
The RSF is taking control of the road between Al-Jazirah and Al-Qadarif states, near Sudan's capital, Khartoum, the report added.

According to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the two sides, which have been fighting since April, agreed on December 9 to sign a cessation of hostilities agreement. However, on Friday, according to reports, the RSF for the first time since the start of the conflict attacked the Wad Madani city, forcing Al-Jazirah state authorities to declare a state of emergency.
Access to all parts of the country from the Al-Jazirah, known as the granary of Sudan, makes it a strategic governorate.
The conflict resulted in over 12,000 people killed, about 33,000 injured and around 7 million displaced, the United Nations said.
